About

Josh Olson is a Minneapolis wedding photographer with a fine art degree and a documentary habit, photographing weddings and elopements in Minnesota and wherever else the day happens to be.

Approach

Josh studied photography to a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in art history, and spent that time on documentary work. Weddings turned out to be the same discipline in a better mood: a day that only happens once, photographed as it goes rather than staged back into shape afterwards.

The style is modern and journalistic. That mostly means staying out of the way and paying attention to the in-between moments, the ones nobody plans and everybody remembers. Couples are left to be themselves instead of being arranged into the shape a wedding is supposed to take.

Home is a studio in northeast Minneapolis, and the calendar reaches a good deal further: Manhattan, Chicago, the California coast, Harbour Island. Commissions are open anywhere the day is happening.

Named a Rangefinder Rising Star in 2020, with work published by Brides, Together Journal and Junebug Weddings. The studio has run climate positive since 2017.
